Ice Fishing Anglers Don’t Miss Out; $125,000 in Cash and Prizes”

Mobridge, SD 09/01/2010 – The Mobridge Chamber’s Tourism Committee has been busily planning the 10th Annual Mobridge Chamber Ice Fishing Tournament to be held January 8th, 2011. Up for grabs to 450 teams is over $125,000 in cash and prizes, and the committee is urging potential participants to check their calendars’.

Anglers that are planning to fish the Midwest’s largest tournament this year need to mark October 4th, 2010. This is when registrations are opening online at www.mobridge.org or www.mobridgeoutdoors.com. “We filled our tournament with 800 anglers (400 teams) in less than 10 days last year,” said Dawn Konold, Tourism Committee Co-Chair, “and with all the phone calls and inquires that we have had, I see us breaking another registration record this year!”

Last year anglers from 14 states and Canada made up the 800 fisherman that competed for $100,000. “We were very fortunate to fill as quickly as we did,” commented Rick Bolduan, Tourism Committee Co-Chair, “I really can’t believe how popular of an event this has gotten.” Without a doubt anglers enjoy the experience of Lake Oahe. Walleye fishing in the Mobridge area has been outstanding, and the committee hopes to see that continue through the winter months.

Along with outstanding fishing, anglers love the experience. Josh Bausch of Gettysburg, SD plans on taking part again this year. “This will be my third year of fishing the tournament and it’s great!” He went on to say that “I have a lot of fun every year.” Marty Gienger of Mobridge, SD also has participated in the tournament in the past, and as he said “I have fished it all but one year and don’t plan to miss it. (The tournament) is well run, fun, and what the heck; I managed to win the first four wheeler, I’ll be there again this year!”

One thing that has held true through the ten years of putting on the tournament is the opportunity to win great prizes. Long time tournament participant Chad Cornell of Aberdeen said it best of the tournament format, “The tourney is well run and fun!! I have been to all but the first one and will continue to go. It is so much different than all of the others. That is what makes it fun.” Cornell continued to say that “there are so many other prizes that are given away. It makes one feel that they have an honest chance of walking away with something.”

Not only do the guys have all the fun. The Tourism Committee has seen a large number of ladies and young anglers take part. Tara Wiest of Mobridge, SD has participated in several past tournaments and enjoys being apart. “Awesome fishing tournament!! I always try and talk new people in to coming out and fishing it! It is amazing on how many prizes are given away-that is a huge draw card.” The committee has planned special prizes for young anglers again this year that include a $100 package from Berkley.

Featured prizes this year will include two Ice Lodge ice shacks, a Honda Big Red, Yamaha Rhino, 10 flat screen tvs, 16 Vexilars, 16 Strikemaster Augers, 10 Clam ice shacks, and $2500 in gear from Runnings, Frabil, and Scheels. There also prices for every place ending in one and for every tenth place the tournament pays out $100. “I think the best part of our tournament is that you really don’t have to be a great angler to win an amazing prize; our only requirement is that our anglers have a great time at our tournament,” Bolduan said.
